Okay! So I’ve been a bit naughty with updating my plushie commissions. Quite a few have arrived over the past few weeks, but I’ve been so busy sewing/looking after Melody/working/responding to people on DA that I haven’t had a chance to feature them on my blog.
It’s high time I updated my MLP collection pic as well as featured those ponies! So today’s blog post would be a compilation of all of these. Warning – picture overload ahead.
First one up – one of my favourite plushies from one of my favourite plushie artists: Galloping Gala Rarity by Lavim!
Lavim and I go waaaay back! My first ever MLP plushie (Applebloom) was from Lavim! And its amazing-ness was what had plunged me deeply into the obsession of collecting MLP plushies, and then sewing them myself! So yes, commissioning Lavim has been a life changing experience for me, so she’ll always be a very special friend to me. Her fame seems to have “bloomed” too and she’s currently busy getting commissioned by many fans for many awesome projects. Yay for Lavim! 😀
Now about Rarity – well, as you can see from the pics, she’s epically fabulous. Her outfit is made from a mixture of minky and satin, and adorned with various gems and pearls. I think it is removable, but I’m not 100% sure and have not tried to remove it. I try to handle her as little as possible because the satin snags, and my hands are rough and dry so the dress keeps snagging on my fingers >.<. Rarity is made from cuddly “touch me all day, every day” minky with machine embroidered details and she stands approximately 18″ tall, so she’s pretty big!
Second up is Sunset Shimmer by fireflytwinkletoes! Complete with Twilight’s crown and her little saddlebag!
Wow, I’ve been dying to get a commission with the famous but elusive fireflytwinkletoes! I wanted to own at least one plushie from her! She’s unique in the sense that she does applique for her pony’s details (as opposed to machine embroidery). This means her ponies usually have very unique expressions! 😀 and this surely applies to my Sunset Shimmer! As fireflytwinkletoes so accurately puts it on her DA:
“I’m very happy with her – my favorite part about her is that she actually looks decently pleasant from the side: a little haughty, maybe, but not bad…and then you look at her from the front and SHE’S SO EVIL. She’s been mocking you this entire time and you just didn’t know it yet. Oh Sunset – why did you steal the crown when it doesn’t even fit over your silly hair?”
That totally made me giggle xD
Anyway! Onto some specifics – Sunset Shimmer stands approximately 17″ tall and is made from cuddly “touch me all day, every day” minky. She’s like a little supermodel and photographs amazingly well from all angles, including the front view 😉 which is probably the case with all of Firefly’s ponies. I love the applique details – they are extremely well done! I especially love the pearly shimmery effect of the whites of her eyes. It really brings her to life. Sunset’s stuffed pretty firmly, but there are no uneven lumps or bumps anywhere. The stitching is generally neat and precise, except on her snout – which is a little crooked and asymmetrical – but luckily, this is not really noticeable unless you stare at her from the front. The crown and saddlebag are very well constructed and fully functional. As to how they are made – I’m going to copy and paste Firefly’s description from her DA page:
“the crown is a ridiculous concoction of satin, cotton, crafting card, wire, applique, and way too much thread. The saddlebag is black suede, fully functional with a snap closure. It velcroes around her middle so that there is no bag on the other side, as appears in the show. The crown doesn’t fit in the bag, unfortunately – it would have had to have been comically tiny (or the bag comically large) for it to work.”
Lol – gotta love Firefly’s witty comments xD
I love Sunset’s striking design and colour scheme (but am not a fan of her evil personality xD) and Firefly’s done an epic job with plushifying her! Thank you so much Firefly!
Third up – Octavia and Big Mac plushie by Vegeto-UchihaPortgas!!!!
First of all, I just have to mention how NICE and SWEET Vegeto-UchihaPortgas is! They were both supposed to be made from fleece but Vegeto-UchihaPortgas kindly made Octavia in plush fabric as a gift for me :3, awwwwwwwww ~ I’m so touched by her kindness 😀 (she has no access to minky in Chile). I commissioned these really early on in my MLP collection career – I think it was in May? So that’s 6 months ago. It took so long because I was at the end of her looong commission queue! Yes, her queue was soooooo loooonnng, because her plushies are so cute and her prices are soooooo amazingly and ridiculously afforable! xD so if you’re interested in getting into MLP plushie collecting – then be sure to check her work on DA out! 😉
Now for some specifics! Tavi stands about 13″ tall, and Big Mac stands approximately 15″ tall. As aforementioned, Tavi is made from plush fabrics and Big Mac from fleece and both have machine embroidered details. These fabrics are not as cuddly and soft as minky, but are still good for cuddles!!!!! 😀 and both ponies are lightly stuffed, so very soft and squishy – perfect for cuddles :3 Vegeto-UchihaPortgas is clearly a very talented seamstress :3 the stitching is very neat and consistent. Both ponies are a lovely addition to my collection and are totally worth the long wait. Thank you so very much Vegeto-UchihaPortgas for allowing me the honour of owning your wonderful work!
Lastly, are Lily Valley and Carrot Top/Golden Harvest from sockfuzzy!
Sorry I don’t have many pics of these two! Carrot Top was actually a gift, so she’s not with me anymore! :3 I only have Lily Valley now 😀 I took several pics of them both when they first arrived, but I wasn’t very happy with these photos, so I had to re-take them quickly when Carrot Top came over for a visit 😀 so that’s why I only have 2 pics T-T (I’ve commissioned a Carrot Top from my good friend KarasuNezumi, so hopefully I will be seeing her soon 😉 I love Carrot Top and desperately need one for my own collection)
Both ponies stand about 13″ tall, and are made from cuddly “touch me all day, every day” minky with machine embroidered details. I can easily tell from looking at them that sockfuzzy is an amazing seamstress, it’s a pity that she’s not plushing as much anymore. Her stiching is very neat, straight and precise and both ponies are stuffed perfectly. Their hooves contain poly pellets so they can stand by themselves easily. Both ponies also have joints in their necks, so their heads swivel!!! 😀 So cool right?! Anyway, I’m grateful to sockfuzzy for allowing me to commission her! She’s an amazing plushie artist, and I hope to see more ponies from her in the future :3
Finally, I’d like to update my MLP collection:
This collection’s going to keep growing because I’m pretty much sewing a new pony for my collection every fortnightly. Also! I’m still waiting on a few commissions and will keep on commissioning (but probably with more discretion ;)).
Today’s the last day of November, which means tomorrow would be the first day of December – Christmas month!!!!! 😀 YAY! Hope you are all as excited as me and have started doing some Christmas shopping! 😉 Christmas is a month of generosity, kindness and giving – so I’m holding a Octavia plushie giveaway contest which closes on the 6th December – so if you still haven’t checked it out yet, be sure to check it out here!
And tomorrow I should be able to list Cheerilee on Ebay! YAY!
If you are interested in adopting her, I’ll be updating my “For Sale” page with her Ebay link so please check back for that!!!!!
Okay – it’s time for lunch! 😀 I should be blogging several more posts before Christmas, but if I don’t – I hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!!
